Supporting tech's next leaders
Mozilla Fellows are the leaders a better tech future demands
For over a decade, Mozilla Fellows have been at the forefront of the most critical conversations about technology and society, from debunking AI myths to exposing disinformation campaigns. We've supported over 200 changemaking Fellows who share our belief that a better tech future is not only possible—it's ours to create. Whether embedded with civil society organizations or pursuing independent innovation, Fellows turn defiant optimism about technology’s future into action.
These visionary technologists, researchers, creators, and advocates are the kinds of tech leaders a better future demands. When the media needs tech voices that aren't billionaire CEOs, when communities need allies who understand their needs, when the next generation needs role models who prove technology can be a force for good—Fellows are those people. Mozilla Fellows don't wait for a better tech future. They’re building it.
Nominations are now open for 2026 Mozilla Fellows
Who is an ideal Mozilla Fellow?
We're looking for technologists who share our belief that a better tech future isn't just possible, it's ours to create. Whether they're mid-career innovators ready to scale their impact or senior leaders ready to pursue field-defining work, we want to hear about the technologists, researchers, creators, and advocates shaping a better tech future.
They believe technology should serve people – They're motivated by community impact, not just maximum profit or scale for its own sake. They build with communities, not for them.
They’re building, not just theorizing – They’re building tools, platforms, art, or even movements having a real impact on issues like protecting user privacy, auditing AI systems, advancing climate justice, protecting creators, democratizing data, or building open infrastructure.
They share what they learn – Through writing, speaking, teaching, or building in the open, they want others to learn from and build on their work.
They're at a pivotal career moment – They're either rising stars ready to scale their impact beyond their local context or established leaders ready to set the agenda for the field's next decade.
Note: Self-nominations welcome. Nominations close January 30, 2026.
A community of changemakers
The work of Mozilla Fellows proves that a better tech future isn't just an aspiration, it's achievable and being built right now. But Fellows don’t go it alone—they join a cohort of like-minded changemakers who work alongside them to problem solve, find new opportunities, and advance their careers.
What Fellows do:
- Lead an impactful Fellowship project: Each Fellow creates a unique project—a tool, platform, creative work, dataset, or other innovation—that demonstrates what better technology looks like in practice. These projects serve as powerful proof points that show people-centered, open technology isn't just possible—it's happening right now.
- Join a global leadership cohort: Fellows join a group of technology leaders from around the world, representing different disciplines and career stages. Through in-person gatherings and ongoing collaboration, Fellows build lasting relationships while developing key leadership skills.
- Share expertise: Fellows amplify their impact by developing open resources to share their work, presenting at major technology conferences, and contributing to publications and campaigns that shape how people think about technology's role in society. This knowledge sharing multiplies their impact far beyond any single project, helping innovators worldwide build with the same values.
