Paz Peña is an independent researcher and author focused on the socio-environmental impacts of digital technologies in Latin America. In 2021, she founded the Latin American Institute of Terraforming, a unique platform for reflecting on the relationship between technology and the ecological and climate crises we face today. In 2023, she published a book titled "Tecnologías para un planeta en llamas" (Technologies for a Burning Planet) through Ibero-American publishing house Paidós. She is based in Santiago, Chile.

Paz's project will increase understanding of new and diverse historical, political, and social perspectives on the sustainability of AI in current debates by focusing on the socio-environmental impacts of AI data centers in real-world cases in Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay. The project will create a tool designed to assist communities and decision-makers in formulating public policy in this area. In order to draw comparisons and identify opportunities for collaboration, the investigation will also draw on experiences in other regions.
