Sayash is a computer science Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University's Center for Information Technology Policy and a Laurance S. Rockefeller Fellow in the University’s Center for Human Values. Sayash has been recognized with various awards, including best paper award at ACM FAccT, impact recognition award at ACM CSCW, and inclusion in TIME’s inaugural list of the 100 most influential people in AI. He is a coauthor of AI Snake Oil, one of Nature’s 10 best books of 2024.
Sayash's project challenges fundamental misconceptions in public and policy discourses about AI safety in the United States. It will redirect current conversations toward evidence-based multi-stakeholder approaches that center human welfare, economic equity, and democratic values and governance of AI systems that serve the public interest. The two keystone activities are writing a series of essays on AI as Normal Technology and organizing a conference on the topic.
